New Training Facility at Camp Bastion

Turner Facilities Management takes the lead role in the project management and delivery of a new training facility in Camp Bastion; the main British operating base in Afghanistan. 

The project involves the transformation of  a large area of featureless desert into a comprehensive training facility, comprising:of an authentic Afghan village amongst other things.

 Turner Facilities Managemenr Design Managment Team (DMT) have been managing these projects in addition to assisting the contractors from various nations to produce designs that match the expectations of the military. The DMT have also been acting as mentors to the contractors whist supervising the works on site and improving the skill sets of the local workforce.  

The types of construction used on the project are varied and somewhat different to standrad practice in the UK.  Added to that are the logistical challenges of working in a remote loctaion,  coupled with  temperatures soaring to 50⁰ (48⁰ in the shade) and sand storms occurring on a regular basis. 

 

Each member of the Turner Facilities Management DMT plays an invaluable role in delivering high quality design and project management services to the British military in Afghanistan.
